Min Din's Quick Tips
Quick Tip #1
When a recipe calls for melted butter. Place the butter directly in your microwave safe dish and melt on high for 1 minute. You will melt your butter and grease your casserole all at the same time! No extra mess or calories!
Quick Tip #2
Chopping onions is time consuming so much so that we often shed tears...... cry no more. Buying onions sans the brown skin saves time and the larger onions can go a long way. Run the onion under cold water for about 10 seconds prior to chopping to avoid tearing up. Often times the recipe will only call for half a cup of onion. Chop the whole onion to save chopping time later. Put the rest in a Tupperware container. You will have chopped onions ready to go the next time you need them. Saving you mess, time, and tears.
Quick Tip #3
This is not only a time saving tip - but a precautionary one as well. My mom always said a ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Remember the onions you saved from Tip 2? With Thanksgiving right around the corner your stuffing is a great place to use them. I always prepare my stuffing the night before to save time on Thanksgiving morning. Keeping stuffing in the fridge overnight allows you to stuff the actual bird without having to worry since you are using cold stuffing on a cold bird. I have done this for over 20 years with perfect stuffing every time! The stuffing is more moist and tastier when stuffed in the Turkey!
Quick Tip #4
When making your stuffing the night before, you do not need to melt your butter. It will re harden in the fridge anyway. If your recipe calls for 1/2 stick butter, go ahead and add that to your stuffing last by just cutting the butter. Mix the cut butter into your stuffing. As it cooks the butter will melt through!
Quick Tip #5
Watching calories??? When you are baking a cake or brownies, you can substitute the oil with apple sauce!
Quick Tip #6
Love chili, but hate the time it takes to chop up all the tomatoes, onions, peppers, etc? I always use a big jar of Salsa in my chili! It has everything you need all in one jar, no mess, no fuss, no time!
Quick Tip #7
For a festive non-alcoholic punch mix equal parts fruit punch and ginger ale, and top it with scoops of rainbow sherbert. A classic and always a treat!
Quick Tip #8
You can make perfect snowman cookies without a cookie cutter. Dip a shot size glass in flour and push into the dough, wiggle the glass back and forth, clockwise and counter clockwise. The dough will drop out when you pick your glass up. Stack three together and you will have the perfect snowman.
